A Dr. Seuss-ish Post

I have some opening lines in my head. They seem a bit like something Dr. Seuss would write so this could get interesting. I guess I’m letting y’all into a writer’s brain for a change…this writer’s brain anyway. Here goes…

What if a dog and a frog sat on a log?

Would there still be enough room for a hog?

Of course a hog wouldn’t sit on a log.

I’m just wondering with a bit of brain fog.

The dog and the frog could jump off the log.

The poor hog would end up in a tumble.

The three could still be friends in a jungle.

When they get hungry all three tummies would rumble.

When they walk all twelve legs would stumble.

If a bee flew by perhaps it would bumble.

But now eighteen legs could search for food.

The bee is too big for the frog to eat…that’s good.

So the four friends would still will be in a good mood.

When they get cranky they might become rude.

Instead they keep walking in search of some food.

As time goes by they find a small lake.

Because they’re thirsty their thirst they will slake.

The frog will jump in, make no mistake.

The hog will roll into a big muddy cake

When the dog comes out his whole body he’ll shake.

The bee will fly up and watch his friends having fun.

They’ll continue to walk. Being warmed by the sun.

For a little while they might even run.

Food they still need. It’s still problem number one.

The farm up ahead must belong to someone.

The dog finds a bowl with food he finds fond.

The frog slips back into his favorite pond.

The hog goes into his pen that is round.

Mr. Bee bumbles back to his nest in a mound.

They all take a nap and remember that log.

There you have it. What do you think?

Perhaps Mr. Toddler Whisperer just wrote a best-selling picturebook in less than an hour. Or maybe just this week’s blog post on a Sunday afternoon.

Keep smiling.   Wade

A Poem for Moms Everywhere

We’d be nowhere without our moms

Our life begins inside her tum…my

She feeds us food and sings us songs

She lets us know that we belong

When we feel sick she holds us tight

Sometimes we keep her up all night

As we mature she tries to help us

Too oft we insist that we can do this

We’ll never know how many prayers

She sends to God to keep us safer

We tear her heart up when we’re bad

Our hearts break too when she is sad

She loves it when we bring our kids over

The laughter they share is great to recover

As mom becomes feeble it us who now pray

Please, God, don’t leave her like this everyday

Eventually God comes and takes her soul home

A piece of our heart is missing for now

Tears of grief will fall from our eyes

God understands and heals as we cry

Dear child be thankful for the mom that you’re given

With Jesus as savior we’ll meet up in heaven

Just Me and Jesus

God has an annoying way of giving me writing prompts sometimes. Two o’clock in the morning seems to be one of His favorite times to do such shenanigans.

Just Me and Jesus was set to a tune as I awoke in the wee hours one morning. The chorus played in my head while I drove around. I sang it to myself and contemplated the verses that should go along with it.

Being the storyteller that I am a theme developed over the next few days. I knew a preacher, a doll, a boy and a doctor would be involved. The third verse came to me first while I drove.

The remainder of the story took shape when I wrote it all down. Rather than a song for the entirety a poem formed to fill in around the chorus. I guess you can call it white conservative Christian rap music if you insist on labeling it into a genre.

This video is what became of that 2 AM writing prompt.

I’ll see you later.   Wade

Thank You Heavenly Father

Thank You Heavenly Father

Thank You for the breath in my lungs, a spark in my mind and praise on my tongue.

Thank You for food on the table, friends to enjoy and a body that’s able.

Thank You for love we can share, hugs to embrace and words of great care.

Thank You for songs that inspire, laughter that frees and poems that inquire.

Thank You for babies so pure, innocence witnessed and curiosity stirred.

Thank You for a new day to start over, fresh choices to make and a chance to recover.

Thank You for the will to go on, to continue this battle till death brings me Home.

Thank You for Your plan for my life, including the trials, the pain and the strife.

Thank You for not leaving me me, but stretching me more so Jesus is seen.

Thank You for wanting me by Your side, enough that You came and suffered and died.

Thank You for Your book I can read, the choice to decide to be slave or be free.

Thank You for choosing me as one of Your own and now using me to tell of Your Son.

Thank You for words that bolster another, encouragement to lift a sister or brother.

Thank You again for breath in my lungs, and a vision to see Your kingdom to come.

In Jesus’s mighty name I pray. AMEN

I Saw Those Tears

I saw those tears you cried today

Your heart is broke so many ways

Another terror made the news

Someone else evil did choose

Their senseless act took many lives

You’re not the only one who cried

I saw those tears roll down your cheeks

I know you’re strong though you feel weak

That buried deep secret you had

Those careless words ripped off the scab

You thought you would be over it

Keep pressing on please don’t quit

I saw those tears you wiped away

The pain was deep nothing to say

The grief the loss you’re lonely now

Beside your bed the tears did flow

The world keeps turning never stops

Others need you to stay on top

I saw those tears My Son once knew

When death was near for others too

He knew His time was very soon

To feel the dark even at noon

He pressed on through the pain and hate

So you could be with Me someday

I saw those tears each one of them

Saved in a bottle I have a plan

One day when you are by My side

My love for you I cannot hide

I’ll wipe each tear away for good

Signed your Heavenly Abba Father God.

What is a Mom?

What is a Mom?

Mom is a woman who gives people birth

Her belly is stretched destroying her girth

She sleeps very little because of small cries

You can tell it from the bags under her eyes

Mom puts food in the top side of her children

Then cleans up messes that occur in the bottom

Disposable diapers are a God-send you see

Cuz she’s always behind in doing laundry

She must treat it right or get static shocks

It’s bad enough she always loses socks

She swears next time she’s just gonna throw

That outfit her child is sure to outgrow

Yet another trip to the grocery is sure

To make still more meals  no matter how poor

Mom comforts the sick, reads stories to calm

Frightened kids who regret the coming strong storm

She gives the best hugs and laughs at our jokes

She hangs up our picture of the cat wearing clothes

Mom helps us with science, English and math

Then she treats herself to a hot bubble bath

She takes us to practices and cheers as we play

No matter the sport nor even the time of day

If she’s godly she tells you of Jesus God’s Son

And how He died for your sins yes every one

She’ll make sure you come to accept God’s gift

Of grace never-ending and love that won’t quit

She does this to know you’re in heaven with her

Forever and ever and ever for sure

A mom’s love won’t stop when she leaves this life

She’ll wait for you with Jesus at her side

Your life may have started within her small womb

But it won’t end when you’re in a cold tomb

Mom’s heart is too large to stop loving you ever

That’s why she’ll wait for you in heaven.

May Your April March On

May your April march on one step at a time

with flowers that bloom and poems that rhyme

The sun warms you more a bit more each day

that’s just how God planned it what more can I say

The trees that looked dead now bloom and turn green

their pollen comes forth and causes your sneeze

The mud your dear children wear home on their clothes

exactly how it got there nobody knows

The siren that blows with approaching dark clouds

is trying to save you not simply be loud

You can ignore it and continue to play

or seek proper shelter and ask folks to pray

When the wind stops you can see the aftermath

it is at that time you can pick up the trash

That’s just how life is, one moment it’s fine

then all is upset by a tempest in time

A loved one is ill, or worse yet they die

your job is dismissed all you can do is cry

These storms in your life that seem too hard to bear

will bring forth new growth with lessons to share

You will find someone who needs you to hear

the pain they hold close as they cry all those tears

Just be there and listen at first as they tell

of their hardships and trials you know too well

When they hear how you endured the same thing

your answers will hit home in God’s great timing

He comforted you with another lost soul

now He’s using you to help heal their woe

That’s how all things work together for good

we all help each other as God knew we would

To be like His Son is God’s ultimate goal

the best first step is to give Him your soul

He’ll shape you and mold you by giving a gift

only you can use to give others a lift

May your April march on one step at a time

with grace in each step to pass down the line.

There once was an elf we’ll call Ralph

There once was an elf we’ll call Ralph

Who lived all his life on a shelf

As Christmas drew near

A time he held dear

A manger was placed in the room

Ralph heard the same story each year

Of wisemen and shepherds in fear

A baby was born

Way out in a barn

Instead of some place it was warm

Ralph prayed for an angel to come

And take him to that side of the room

He wanted to be

Much closer to see

This baby they made such a fuss

He knew that some things just can’t be

Like porcelain falling to its knees

He still longed to try

If he could just fly

To see this kid they named Jesus

Unlike this elf we have called Ralph

You and I don’t sit on a shelf

We can come to Him

And He into us

Because we are much more than dust

This Jesus is God become man

It’s all within God’s mighty plan

To bring us to Him

And God down to us

To build a new bridge over sin

So please don’t just sit there and wish

For your life to be happy bliss

You just have to say

My sins I can’t pay

Only by the death of Jesus

Once taken this gift as your own

Jesus you will see on His throne

His kingdom will be

A reality

That will last for eternity

So even if your name is Ralph

And you feel like you’re stuck on a shelf

Give your life to Him

He’ll live within

Your heart to make you like Him.

Keep smiling. Merry Christmas.    Wade

Some silly things I’m thankful for

As Thanksgiving day comes round again and knocks upon my door

I’m thinking of some silly things that I am grateful for

Like fire flies that make a light without a battery

and squirrels that scamper on the ground then quickly climb a tree

I like that grass stands up tall but is smooth under bare feet

and waves that crash upon the shore then leave a sandy beach

A bumble bee should not be able to fly according to engineers

with a body so big and wings too small to lift it in the air

I marvel that fish can breathe in water with gills instead of lungs

but I would drown if I sunk down to depths too far to plunge

Caterpillars have too many feet and are such clumsy things

in time they discard their toes and sprout such beautiful wings

A seed so small goes in the ground to become a bigger plant

if it could choose to just refuse, never mind, it can’t

A pollywog that swims around just like it is a fish

til legs appear and lungs become more than a simple wish

Some bugs can fly while others crawl wherever they can go

I like the way God made each one so it would simply know

The sky so blue takes on such hews at sunrset and sunrise

the colors made by such display are pleasing to my eyes

The stars at night are glorious and awesomely incredible

yet God, it’s said, gave each a name because that’s where He dwells

This God also became a man because He loves us so

Jesus was named before His birth so many years ago

He showed us how we’re meant to live by being one of us

I don’t know why so many fight and throw up such a fuss

He shared God’s love and lived out grace like none I ever knew

yet took the whip and accepted each insult at Him they threw

Jesus died the death we ought to have suffered on that cross

He did it all because of the love God has for each one of us

I’m grateful that I took this gift God offered up to me

I hope you too open this love He gave upon that tree

You never know when your time upon this earth will end

don’t fight with God but open up and become His friend

A relationship with Him is what this life is all about

there’s just one way for you to come that’s without a doubt

I pray you too are grateful for the suffering Jesus took

if not then read the story for you in His Bible book

Take for yourself this substitutionary death He took for you

then we will meet in heaven one day as siblings we never knew
